SUMMARY:The Status of Axion Dark Matter Searches and the Next Frontier. - ( Yannis K. Semertzidis / LNCMI / Seminar). - 23/04/2026\, 14H
DESCRIPTION:Seminar LNCMI \nYannis K. Semertzidis\, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in Daejeon \nSeminar LNCMI\, 23/04/2026\, 14H\, LNCMI\,Visio \nAbstract\nOver the past decade\, axion dark matter searches have made substantial progress\, with resonant haloscope experiments probing well-motivated regions of parameter space at unprecedented sensitivity. Advances in high-Q cavities\, quantum-limited amplifiers\, and optimized scanning strategies have enabled leading experiments to approach\, and in some cases reach\, key theoretical benchmarks. \nExtending this sensitivity to higher frequencies\, however\, remains a central challenge. As cavity volumes decrease and technical demands increase\, the experimental figure of merit B^2 V becomes the dominant limiting factor in achievable signal power. In this regime\, access to large magnetic fields over significant volumes is not simply advantageous—it is decisive. \nProf. Semertzidis will review the current experimental landscape and discuss emerging directions aimed at the sub-GHz and tens-of-GHz range with theoretically motivated sensitivities. In particular\, he will highlight how facilities that already meet the most demanding B^2 V requirements are uniquely positioned to lead this effort\, provided that complementary detection capabilities are developed in parallel. This combination offers a realistic and timely path toward exploring a largely uncharted region of axion parameter space with competitive sensitivity. \nLien Zoom : https://univ-grenoble-alpes-fr.zoom.us/j/94228207316?pwd=khTdznxeFy1ZUYkYftQ0QSox6Fz3iK.1
