SUMMARY:Bâtonnets quantiques : un modèle minimal de gaz quantique fortement corrélé. - (Miłosz Panfil / LPT / Seminar). -16/06/2026\, 14H
DESCRIPTION:Séminaire LPT \nMiłosz Panfil (Université de Varsovie) \nSeminar LPT\, 16/06/2026\, 14H\, 3R4\, salle de conférence \nSummary :\nThis talk addresses the quest for a minimal model capable of describing strongly correlated quantum matter. Specifically\, we seek a model exhibiting complex behavior that cannot be explained by free dynamics\, but which can at the same time be treated exactly. In this talk\, I will describe such a model: the quantum gas of hard rods. I will discuss the computation of its dynamic structure factor and its quench dynamics. Additionally\, I will explore the underlying quantum integrability of the model and its connection to the more renowned Lieb-Liniger model.

SUMMARY:Glaciers. Sentinelles du changement climatique . - (Etienne Berthier / CEMES / Seminar). - 18/06/2026\, 11H
\nLien web : https://rendez-vous.renater.fr/Seminaire_du_Jeudi_Etienne_Berthier_f5b64b-ac5f67-c00e91

SUMMARY:Interplay of Amino Acid Sequence\, Intrinsic Folding Propensity\, and Solvent Effects in Shaping Peptide Secondary Structures and their Functional Implications. - ( Aloke Das/ LCAR / Seminar). - 18/06/2026\, 11H
DESCRIPTION:Séminaire LCAR \nAloke Das\, Department of Chemistry\, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune\, India \nSummary :\nSecondary structures of peptides play a crucial role in shaping the overall three-dimensional architecture of proteins. The most common secondary structures found in peptides include α- helices\, β-sheets\, and turns. Among these\, turns are especially important because they reverse the direction of polypeptide chains\, thereby contributing to their compactness and stability. Turns are categorized into types such as C7 (γ-turn)\, C10 (β-turn)\, and C13 (α-turn)\, depending on the specific hydrogen-bonded rings formed between residues in the backbone. Given that these structures are fundamentally local\, they can be effectively explored using small\, capped peptides\, which act as minimal models for understanding folding patterns in larger peptides and proteins. Among the twenty naturally occurring amino acids\, glycine (Gly) and proline (Pro) stand out due to their distinct conformational characteristics: glycine\, which lacks a side chain\, is the most flexible\, whereas proline\, featuring a cyclic imino group\, is highly conformationally constrained. Importantly\, the -Pro-Gly- sequence tends to favor a β-turn conformation\, which is commonly found in the loop regions of β-hairpins. \nIn this presentation\, I will discuss our detailed investigation of Pro-Gly containing capped PGX tripeptides (X = A\, L\, V\, I) using a combination of FTIR spectroscopy\, 2D-NMR\, CD\, gas-phase laser spectroscopy\, single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD)\, and quantum chemical computations.1-5 Our study shows that PGA and PGL adopt a double β-turn structure across solid\, solution\, and gas phases\, while PGV and PGI prefer an extended β-strand conformation in the solid and solution states but retain a double β-turn structure in the gas phase. These observations emphasize the subtle interplay between the inherent conformational tendencies of amino acid residues\, sequence\, and solvent effects in determining peptide folding motifs. Notably\, the crystallization of these peptides in non-centrosymmetric space groups highlights their potential as functional materials with piezoelectric\, ferroelectric\, and nonlinear optical properties\, thereby linking peptide structural chemistry with materials design.

SUMMARY:Study of the interplay of Magnetism\, Structure\, and Electronic Properties in the Iron-Based superconductor BaFe2S3 - (Yassine Oubaid / LNCMI / Seminar). - 18/06/2026\, 14H
DESCRIPTION:Seminar LNCMI \nYassine Oubaid\, Laboratoire de Physique du Solide at Université Paris Saclay \nSeminar LNCMI\, 18/06/2026\, 14H\, LNCMI\, Toulouse \nAbstract\nRecently\, a family of quasi-one-dimensional Fe-based spin-ladder compounds with the formula BaFe2X3\, where X represents a chalcogen (Se or S)\, has been shown to exhibit superconductivity under pressures exceeding 10 GPa\, with critical temperatures of approximately 10 K or 26 K\, depending on the chalcogen species [1]. \nHowever\, the intriguing properties of these compounds extend far beyond superconductivity. At ambient pressure\, they behave as Mott insulators and display exotic structural and magnetic phenomena\, including multiferroicity near room temperature. As such\, these materials encompass key characteristics of strongly correlated quantum systems. Building on extensive investigations of BaFe2Se3\, this work presents a comprehensive experimental study of BaFe2S3. \nA detailed examination of the structural\, magnetic\, and electronic properties of BaFe2S3 as a function of temperature and pressure was carried out using a multi-technique approach. This included synchrotron X-ray diffraction\, neutron diffraction\, inelastic neutron scattering\, and synchrotron-based infrared spectroscopy\, performed on both powder and single crystals from the same synthesis batch. These experiments enabled the construction of a comprehensive picture of the underlying physics as a function of temperature and pressure. At ambient pressure\, our study revealed novel phases featuring new atomic structures and a previously unreported structural transition to a polar structure\, demonstrating that BaFe2S3 hosts a combination of exotic tilted stripe magnetic order\, multiferroicity\, and magnetoelasticity [2\, 3]. \nUnder pressure\, by combining complementary structural\, magnetic\, optical\, and transport measurements\, we obtained a comprehensive picture of the magnetic and atomic evolution of BaFe2S3. Our results provide evidence for an intriguing dichotomy between localized and itinerant Fe 3d electrons\, which helps explain both the persistence of magnetic order and the emergence of superconductivity. In particular\, we have significantly revised the interpretation of several experimental observations previously reported in the literature\, substantially enhancing our understanding of magnetoelastic coupling\, electronic gap opening\, the insulator-to-metal transition\, structural degrees of freedom\, and superconductivity. \n[1] H. et al.
