SUMMARY:Yu-Shiba-Rusinov states in two-dimensional superconductors. - (Mateo Uldemolins-Nivela / Seminar / LPT). - 08/11/2022
DESCRIPTION:Mateo Uldemolins-Nivela (LPS\, Orsay) \n  \nSummary\nA magnetic impurity on a conventional superconductor is one of the most simple pair-breaking defects that induces in-gap Yu-Shiba-Rusinov (YSR) bound states\, whose intricate spatial structure crucially influences the possibilities of engineering collective impurity states (e.g.\, Shiba chains\, lattices…) and topological superconductivity.\nIn this talk\, I will first introduce the paradigmatic model used to describe a magnetic impurity on a two-dimensional superconductor and I will discuss the main aspects of the YSR physics. Secondly\, I will present our recent work on the quasiparticle effect of YSR states\, where we use a generalized saddle-point approximation to unveil a simple analytical relationship between the spatial structure of the YSR bound states and the momentum-space anisotropy of the Fermi surface\, namely the angular dependent Fermi velocity and curvature of the Fermi surface.\nI will show that our analytical approximation is quantitatively accurate against tight-binding calculations in lattice models and I will discuss its application to describe the anisotropy of YSR states observed in scanning tunneling spectroscopy experiments of magnetic impurities on NbSe2. \n\n

SUMMARY:Chaos et complexité : comment appliquer à l’éthique humaine la rationalité des sciences contemporaines ?- (Maxime Rovère / Seminar / LPT). - 10/11/2022
DESCRIPTION:Maxime Rovère (IHRIM\, Lyon) \nSummary \nWhile physics has undergone intense upheavals throughout the 20th century\, the way philosophers think of human action seems to rely on notions (responsibility\, freedom\, etc.) most of which do not take into account the new tools of reason. On the contrary\, the most common discourses on human actions and emotions have been won over by a globally psychological and individualizing approach. But what happens to the categories of « hypersensitive »\, « narcissistic » or « psychorigid » in the face of the principle of sensitivity to initial conditions? Can an ethics derived from chaos theory shed more light on moral questions\, or is it nothing more than a metaphorical use of concepts? Can thinking of randomness contribute to transforming our conception of ethics? What happens to concepts such as identity and self-transformation in the face of complexity methods? This presentation will test scientific reflections on the hypotheses formulated over the past five years\, with the aim of formulating an « interactional » ethics whose primary element is not the indivisible human persona\, but the interference between loops of interactions.

SUMMARY:Brève histoire de l’intrication quantique depuis Euler - (Grzegorz Rajchel-Mieldzioć / Seminar / LPT). - 22/11/2022
DESCRIPTION:Grzegorz Rajchel-Mieldzioć (ICFO Barcelone) \nThe negative solution to the famous problem of 36 officers of Euler implies that there are no two orthogonal Latin squares of order six. We show that the problem has a solution\, provided the officers can be entangled and construct two quantum orthogonal Latin squares of this size. In other words\, we found an Absolutely Maximally Entangled state AME(4\,6) for four subsystems with six levels each\, equivalently a 2-unitary matrix U of size 36 which maximizes the entangling power among all bi-partite unitary gates of this dimension\, or a perfect tensor Tijkℓ with four indices\, each running from one to six\, or pure non-additive quantum error correction code ((4\, 1\, 3))_6. \n\n

SUMMARY:Theory days on Ultrafast processes in molecules and clusters (Meeting / LPT)\, 23-25/11/2022
DESCRIPTION:Organizers : M. Belkacem\,P. M. Dinh\, E. Suraud\, N. Tancogne-Dejean \nAim and objectives\nFollowing the tradition of the previous successful meetings that have started in 2009\, the Theory Days workshop aims at stimulating constructive discussions\, collaborations\, and knowledge exchange among a selected group of theoreticians. This year\, the fourteenth edition will be dedicated to Ultrafast processes in molecules and clusters. \nThe workshop will be dedicated to numerical approaches for Ultrafast (UF) phenomena in clusters and molecules following a laser irradiation or a collision with a swift ion. It is now possible to generate laser pulses down to the attosecond domain (10^-18 s) which opens the door to time resolved analysis of system’s response now at the electronic level. Similar time scales are attained with swift projectiles\, which raises interesting questions in the general field of irradiation. \nSuch UF processes underlie numerous physical phenomena which require dedicated analysis\, both experimentally and theoretically. We shall focus discussions on how to access to system’s properties from a theoretical viewpoint\, which in particular implies a proper choice of relevant observables accessible both experimentally and theoretically. \nThe aim of the meeting is twofold. We shall discuss possible solutions to develop in order to properly describe UF processes and identify pending underlying problems. We shall also\, in the continuity of last year edition of Theory Days on High Performance Computing start to analyse benchmarking results stemming from comparisons between various simulation packages. \nThe workshop will gather people from various groups working in this domain\, mostly in western Europe. The workshop is intended to be a working forum\, thus rather informal. The format will consist in a series of long detailed talks\, typically 1 hour (40 mn talk + 10 mn for questions) focusing in particular on ongoing problems and open issues. \n  \nMore informations Here : https://www.lpt.ups-tlse.fr/spip.php?article1621

SUMMARY:Trions and Fermi-polarons in 2D semiconductors (Mikhail Glazov / Seminar / LPT). - 29/11/2022\, 14H
DESCRIPTION:Mikhail Glazov\, Institut Ioffe\, Saint-Pétersbourg \nSummary : \n \n\nRecently emerged two-dimensional semiconductors based on transition metal dichalcogenides demonstrate spectacular properties and are considered as materials beyond graphene for optoelectronics\, spintronics\, valleytronics\, and straintronics. \nOptical response of these atom-thin semiconductors is dominated by the excitons — Coulomb bound electron hole pairs. Strong Coulomb interaction makes it also possible to observe charged excitons also known as trions : three particle complexes consisting of an electron and two holes or a hole and two electrons. These complexes are formed in the presence of resident holes or electrons in the sample. \nIn my talk\, after a brief introduction into the physics of two-dimensional semiconductors\, I will discuss theoretical approaches to describe the optical and transport properties of excitons interacting with the Fermi-sea of resident electrons. Two complementary approaches are presented : (i) the trion one based on the consideration of a free particle bound state and (ii) the Fermi-polaron one where an exciton is considered as a mobile impurity in the Fermi-sea. We demonstrate that in many relevant situations these approaches yield similar results. We also present the situations where both models contradict each other\, enabling experimental distinction between the trion and Fermi-polaron approaches. \nWe focus on description of optical absorption and emission effects\, fine structure of the energy spectrum and diffusion of the Coulomb-correlated complexes. Theoretical results will be illustrated by the experimental data.
