SUMMARY:Modes zéro forts dans les circuits quantiques intégrables. - (Eric Vernier / LPT / Seminar). - 12/11/2024\, 14H
DESCRIPTION:Eric Vernier (LPSM) \nSeminar LPT\, 12/11/2024\, 14H\, 3R1\, seminar room\, 3rd floor \nAbstract :\nIt is a classic result that certain interacting integrable spin chains host robust edge modes known as strong zero modes (SZMs). In this Letter\, we extend this result to the Floquet setting of local quantum circuits\, focusing on a prototypical model providing an integrable Trotterization for the evolution of the XXZ Heisenberg spin chain. By exploiting the algebraic structures of integrability\, we show that an exact SZM operator can be constructed for these integrable quantum circuits in certain regions of parameter space. Our construction\, which recovers a well-known result by Paul Fendley in the continuous-time limit\, relies on a set of commuting transfer matrices known from integrability\, and allows us to easily prove important properties of the SZM\, including normalizabilty. Our approach is different from previous methods and could be of independent interest even in the Hamiltonian setting. Our predictions\, which are corroborated by numerical simulations of infinite-temperature autocorrelation functions\, are potentially interesting for implementations of the XXZ quantum circuit on available quantum platforms.

SUMMARY:Effets topologiques et géométriques dans les électrons et les photons. - (Kang Yang / LPT / Seminar). - 19/11/2024\, 14H
DESCRIPTION:Kang Yang (Université libre de Berlin) \nSeminar LPT\, 19/11/2024\, 14H\, 3R4\, salle de conférence \nSummary :\nTopology and geometry help us understand many physical phenomena. Their broad applicability without resort to explicit parameters leads to a variety of simple universal behaviours. In this presentation\, I will introduce some geometric effects in correlated electrons and topological effects in photonic band structures. In the first part\, I will show how geometry of quantum states can help us understand electrons in flat bands. Such systems are dominated by interactions and host intriguing states with fractional statistics. I will show how nonuniform quantum distances between the Bloch states lead to emergent particle-hole asymmetry and serve as a guideline to the interacting phase diagram. This has several applications in twisted moiré systems. In the second part\,I will go to my recent work on photonic bands\, where dissipation can be modelled by simple non-Hermitian evolution. I will briefly introduce my recent classification. This leads to generic nodal points carrying non-Abelian charges and topology duality in quantum states. These phenomena are realised experimentally through a single-photon interferometry. \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Theory days on Computational tools in physics : performances vs. reproducibility . - (Meeting / LPT)\, 27-29/11/2024
DESCRIPTION:Organizers : M. Belkacem\, P. M. Dinh\, and E. Suraud \nAim and objectives\nFollowing the tradition of the previous successful meetings that have started in 2009\, the Theory Days workshop aims at stimulating constructive discussions\, collaborations\, and knowledge exchange among a selected group of theoreticians. This year\, the 16th edition will be dedicated to Computational tools in physics : performances vs. reproducibility. \nThe development of computational codes for structure and dynamics of electronic systems is experiencing new directions of research in relation to the growing availability of artificial intelligence tools. Machine learning is now applied to numerous computational issues in physics and chemistry\, such as for example structure optimization in clusters and molecules. The aim of this year meeting is to address this question in the specific context of dynamical problems\, on the basis of existing computational softwares. To restrict the field\, we shall focus on fully dynamical approaches allowing us to address dynamical scenarios beyond the domain of linear response. The meeting will thus try to summarize today’s situation in the field\, by considering dedicated questions raised by dynamical codes. \nThe problem of reproducibility is becoming a major issue in computational science. The issue is becoming especially important because of the ever increasing complexity of the codes and as computations become bigger and bigger up to a point at which it may become too expansive to make systematic checks. It thus raises the key question of how large differences can be acceptable between results obtained from a given code using various “reasonable’’ parameters and/or various machines. There is a hardware aspect and a physical aspect. We shall try in the meeting to address both aspects on typical examples. \nWe plan to gather people from various groups working in this domain\, mostly in western Europe. The workshop is intended to be a working forum\, thus rather informal. The format will consist in a series of long detailed talks\, typically 1 hour (40 mn talk + 10 mn for questions) focusing in particular on ongoing problems and open issues. We thus urge participants to prepare their talks in this spirit. Ultimately a most efficient organization would consist in having a limited number of talks per representative group in order to avoid doublings. \nsee more details : here
