SUMMARY:A Quantum Chemistry Perspective on Many-Body Electronic Structure Methods. - (Johannes Tölle / LCPQ / Seminar). - 6/03/2025\, 14H
DESCRIPTION:Séminaire LCPQ \nJohannes Tölle Universität Münster (Germany) \nSummary :\nIn recent years\, many-body electronic structure methods originating from theoretical condensed matter physics have been adopted with great success in quantum chemical appli- cations. Similarly\, many-body techniques from quantum chemistry are routinely applied in theoretical condensed matter physics. This exchange of many-body methods has resulted in a broad interest in gaining a deeper understanding of their interconnections. In this talk\, I will present such a connection for the G0W0 method and the Equation-Of-Motion (EOM) Coupled Cluster (CC) approach for charged excitations [1]. Based on this connection\, a practical\, frequency-free G0W0 approach [2] and analytic nuclear gradients will be presented [3]\nReferences\n[1] J. Tölle\, and Garnet K.-L. Chan\, J. Chem.

SUMMARY:Comportement collectif dans les matériaux vivants. - (Matteo Paoluzzi / LPT / Seminar). - 19/03/2025\, 14H
DESCRIPTION:Séminaire LPT \nMatteo Paoluzzi (l’Université de Rome « La Sapienza ») \nSeminar LPT\, 19/03/2025\, 14H\, 3R4\, salle de conférence \nSummary :\nActive Materials are collections of self-propelled active particles that serve as model systems for several biological systems ranging from epithelial tissues to bacterial microfilms. Because of their non-equilibrium dynamics\, active systems can show condensed phases that are prevented by fluctuations at equilibrium. For instance\, active particles can condense even in the absence of any attractive force\, they can develop collective long-ranged polar order in two spatial dimensions\, and they can produce spontaneous currents once embedded into complex environments. In this talk\, I will show how most of the peculiarities of active systems can be rationalized in terms of persistent random walks. I will explore the impact of such non-equilibrium dynamics on a coarse-graining scale where it is possible to observe a phase separation driven by the noise.

SUMMARY:Electronic Ordered Phases of Cuprate Superconductors . - (Dave Hawthorn / LNCMI / Seminar). - 20/03/2025\, 14H
DESCRIPTION:Seminar LNCMI \nDave Hawthorn (University of Waterloo\, Canada) \nSeminar LNCMI\, 20/03/2025\, 14H\, seminar room \nSumary :\nCuprate high temperature superconductors occupy a unique position in the study of quantum materials. On one hand\, being extensively studied and having the highest superconducting transition temperatures at ambient pressure\, they are benchmark materials that quantum simulators aim to model and to which newly discovered quantum materials and superconductors are referenced against. On the other hand\, they remain an unsolved problem\, with major aspects of the fundamental physics of the cuprates not yet understood. Amongst these challenges is a rich competition that occurs between superconductivity and other ordered phases\, including charge density wave and nematic orders. How these orders manifest and couple plays a key role in understanding important differences between various cuprate materials. \nIn this talk\, I will briefly review cuprate high temperature superconductors. I will then discuss how we can use an advanced x-ray diffraction technique\, resonant x-ray scattering\, to measure charge density wave and nematic orders in the (La\,M)2CuO4 family of cuprate superconductors. These measurements demonstrate orbital/nematic order is coupled to but distinct from CDW order and is associated with the enigmatic pseudogap phase of the cuprates.
