SUMMARY:Mémoire et perception de l’environnement dans les systèmes actifs. - (Marc Besse / LPT / Seminar). - 2/12/2025\, 14H
DESCRIPTION:Séminaire LPT \nMarc Besse (Sorbonne) \nSeminar LPT\, 2/12/2025\, 14H\, 3R4\, salle de conférence \nSummary \nActive systems\, such as living cells\, are traditionally modelled via self-propelled particles driven by internal forces. It is however often assumed that these internal forces do not depend on the environment which is questionable from a biological perspective. Here we use the framework of Generalized Langevin Equations (GLE) to go beyond this paradigm by incorporating internal state dynamics and environmental sensing into active particle models. We show that when the self-propulsion of a particle depends on internal variables themselves depending on the environment\, qualitatively new behaviours emerge. These include memory-induced responses\, controllable localization in complex landscapes\, and suppression of motility-induced phase separation or enhanced jamming transitions. Our results demonstrate how minimal information processing capabilities\, intrinsic to nonequilibrium systems like living cells\, can profoundly influence both individual and collective behaviours. This framework bridges cell-scale activity and large-scale intelligent motion of active agents and offers insights relevant to systems ranging from synthetic colloids to biological collectives or robotic swarms. \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Les ressources de magie fermionique dans les systèmes quantiques à plusieurs corps. - (Piotr Sierant/ LPT / Seminar). - 9/12/2025\, 14H
DESCRIPTION:Séminaire LPT \nPiotr Sierant ((Centro nacional de Supercomputación\, Barcelone) \nSeminar LPT\, 9/12/2025\, 14H\, 3R4\, salle de conférence \nSummary\nUnderstanding the complexity and non-classical features of quantum states is a central challenge in quantum many-body physics. In qubit systems\, fermionic Gaussian states can be efficiently simulated on classical computers and thus provide a natural baseline for assessing quantum complexity. In this talk\, based on [arXiv:2506.00116]\, I will briefly introduce the idea of magic state resource theories and then focus on a framework for quantifying fermionic magic resources\, also known as fermionic non-Gaussianity. I will describe the algebraic structure of the fermionic commutant and introduce fermionic antiflatness (FAF)\, an efficiently computable and experimentally accessible measure of fermionic non-Gaussianity with a clear physical interpretation in terms of Majorana fermion correlation functions. I will argue that FAF detects phase transitions\, reveals universal features of critical points\, and identifies special solvable points in many-body systems. Extending to out-of-equilibrium settings\, I will show that fermionic magic resources proliferate in highly excited eigenstates\, and I will describe the growth and saturation of FAF under ergodic dynamics\, emphasizing how conservation laws and locality constrain the increase of non-Gaussianity during unitary evolution. The main goal of this talk is to present fermionic non-Gaussianity\, alongside entanglement and non-stabilizerness\, as a resource relevant not only for foundational studies of quantum many-body systems but also for experimental platforms aiming at quantum advantage.

SUMMARY:Algorithmes de propagation pour la simulation classique et au-delà. - (Armando Angrisani / LPT / Seminar). - 16/12/2025\, 14H
DESCRIPTION:Séminaire LPT \nArmando Angrisani (EPFL) \nSeminar LPT\, 16/12/2025\, 14H\, 3R4\, salle de conférence \nSummary \nSimulating quantum dynamics on classical computer is\, in general\, a hard task. However\, certain families of quantum circuits can be simulated efficiently using specialized classical algorithms. Among these\, propagation algorithms have recently emerged as a powerful framework for classical simulation\, significantly raising the benchmark for demonstrating quantum advantage. \nBy approximating the evolution of quantum operators in a suitable basis (typically the Pauli basis for qubit systems) these methods provide rigorous performance guarantees across a wide range of both noisy and noiseless quantum systems. In this talk\, I will present recent theoretical advances in propagation algorithms and highlight their potential applications beyond classical simulation\, including hybrid strategies that facilitate the practical deployment of near-term quantum devices. \nI will also discuss how the propagation framework can be extended from qubit circuits to bosonic quantum systems. Furthermore\, I will explore how propagation algorithms offer new insights into the fundamental resources required for quantum advantage\, such as magic (non-stabilizerness) in discrete-variable systems\, and energy and non-Gaussianity in continuous-variable systems. \n\n\n\n
