SUMMARY:Explorer la géométrie quantique par l’optique. - (Ivo Souza / LPT / Seminar). - 01/07/2025\, 14H
DESCRIPTION:Séminaire LPT \nIvo Souza (CFM\, San Sebastián) \nSeminar LPT\, 01/07/2025\, 14H\, 3R4\, salle de conférence \nRésumé :\nThe quantum geometry of electron states in crystals gives rise to fascinating phenomena\, such as topological (quantized) responses. Currently\, there is great interest in devising experimental protocols for directly probing the Berry curvature\, quantum metric\, and orbital moment of Bloch electrons. [*] Central to this effort is the notion that ground-state quantum geometry can be related to the excitation spectrum via optical sum rules. In this talk I will review those ideas\, from their early inception to recent developments. \n[*] Image empruntée à S. Kim et al.\, Science 388\, 1050 (2025).

SUMMARY:Instabilités de flexion dans les systèmes élasto-capillaires. - (Nicholas Brubaker / LPT / Seminar). - 02/07/2025\, 14H
DESCRIPTION:Séminaire LPT \nNicholas Brubaker (Université d’État de Californie\, Fullerton)) \nSeminar LPT\, 01/07/2025\, 14H\, 3R4\, salle de conférence \nSummary :\nDeforming an elastic plate around a liquid drop is an energetically efficient way to build microscale structures. However\, accessing the full design space of the structure requires being able to completely wrap the plate around the drop. Full wrapping is predicated on inducing a bending instability that occurs when the drop’s surface tension dominates the plate’s rigidity. We elucidate this bifurcation in some simplified models and discuss its ubiquity in many other elasto-capillary systems.

SUMMARY:Quantum simulation and quantum computing with ultracold atoms. - (Immanuel BLOCH / Seminar/ SFP). - 4/07/2025\, 11H
DESCRIPTION:Séminaire SFP \nImmanuel BLOCH\, Max-Planck Institute of Quantum Optics de Munich\, Salle de conférence\, Bat. 3R4 \nSummary:\nQuantum simulation has become a powerful interdisciplinary tool for probing quantum matter with microscopic resolution\, both in and out of equilibrium. Platforms based on ultracold atoms in optical lattices and tweezers have played a crucial role in the development of the field\, with applications ranging from strongly correlated electronic or spin systems\, the investigation of out-of-equilibrium dynamics to novel quantum optical light matter interfaces. These systems offer complementary insights to those obtained from advanced numerical methods. In particular\, fermionic quantum simulators have begun to reveal new aspects of strongly interacting regimes that challenge conventional computational approaches \nAlongside analog approaches\, gate-based quantum computing offers broader universality\, though it remains limited by scalability and error correction demands. Hybrid strategies combining both paradigms may offer a promising route to address complex quantum many-body problems in the near term. This talk will survey recent progress\, highlight key challenges\, and discuss future directions at the interface of quantum simulation\,computation\, and many-body physics. \nAffiche presentation séminaire SFP\, I. SUMMARY:Chaînes Kitaev de fermions et de bosons. - (Tami Pereg-Barnea / LPT / Seminar). - 08/07/2025\, 14H
DESCRIPTION:Séminaire LPT \nTami Pereg-Barnea (Université McGill) \nSeminar LPT\, 08/07/2025\, 14H\, 3R4\, salle de conférence \nRésumé :\nThe Kitaev chain is a toy model for a one dimensional topological superconductor. It demonstrates how the superconductor can host Majorana modes at its edges. These special modes are their own antiparticles\, exhibit non-abelian statistics and can serve as building blocks of qubits. \nIn its original form the model is written for fermions (electron quasiparticles) and the Majoranas can be thought of as a half of an electron. In the fermionic part of the talk I will present some recent results on shuttling Maoranas on a 1D fermionic Kitaev chain. We will then introduce a bosonic analogue for the Kitaev model\, intended for photonic or cold atom systems. This model does not result in Majorana edge modes as those can not be made of bosons. Nevertheless\, the topology of the model leads to some interesting effects where a hermitian Hamiltonian leads to non-hermitian dynamics.

SUMMARY:High-resolution mid-infrared molecular spectroscopy for precision measurements and tests of fundamental physics. – (Mathieu Manceau / LPCNO / Seminar). – 11/07/2025\, 14H
DESCRIPTION:Séminaire LPCNO \nMathieu Manceau\, Laboratoire de physique des lasers \nSalle de conférence\, Bâtiment 3R4\n \nAbstract \nHigh spectral resolution gas-phase molecular spectroscopy in the mid-infrared (MIR)—the so-called molecular fingerprint region (3 to 25 μm)—has far-reaching applications\, ranging from astrophysics\, remote sensing\, and Earth sciences to fundamental physics and metrology. Sub-Doppler spectroscopic techniques in the MIR have so far been limited to only a few relatively simple species.\nIn this talk\, I will present our latest efforts at the Laboratoire de Physique des Lasers to overcome current limitations in MIR frequency metrology. Our goal is to extend frequency metrology methods to an increasing number of species and to enable broadband\, sensitive\, and ultra-precise spectroscopic studies of molecules relevant to fundamental physics\, atmospheric science\, and astrophysics.\nI will specifically highlight our recent instrumental developments\, including ultrastable quantum cascade lasers\, advances in MIR photonics\, and a new source of cold molecules. I will also discuss our ongoing experiments aimed at testing parity symmetry in chiral molecules\, and measuring potential variations in the proton-to-electron mass ratio over time and space.\nThese latter measurements\, which involve comparing absorption and emission spectra from cosmic sources with laboratory data\, are currently limited by the existing laboratory measurements..
