This presentation provides an overview of Ni\u2013CeO\u2082 catalysts and cermets, focusing on their surface chemistry, redox behavior, and catalytic performance under relevant operating conditions. Based on our recent studies [1\u20137], the talk will cover the synthesis of Ni-doped ceria nanoparticles, the influence of doping on surface reducibility, and the structural evolution of Ni\u2013Ce interfaces under thermal treatment and CO\u2082 methanation conditions. In the context of electrochemical applications, the presentation will address Ni\u2013CeO\u2082-based electrodes (cermets) for CO\u2082 and steam electrolysis, with emphasis on operando investigations of surface oxidation, electrochemical response, and interface stability. Particular attention is given to the role of surface states, oxygen vacancies, and metal\u2013support interactions in governing activity and long-term performance.
