Abstract
Inorganic composite particles at the nanometre scale are of great potential interest for both catalysis and biomedical applications. However, the preparation of homogeneous inorganic nanocomposite materials remains a challenge at present. Over the last few years, I have developed an original approach for the preparation of such composites, based on the heterocoagulation of the two components. I will present two examples of nanocomposites prepared using this heterocoagulation approach: the first one is zeolite@alumina colloidal nanoparticles that were applied as support for hydroisomerisation catalysts and the second one UCNP@ZnO colloidal nanoparticles (with UCNP a Tm,Yb doped LiYF4 nanoparticle with upconversion properties) that were applied for photocatalysis under NIR light. This approach will be compared to a more “classical” one which is based on the direct growth of one material on pre-existing particles of a second material and the advantages and limitations of both methods will be discussed
